Saab Key Programming
saab ignition key replacement cars built since about 1994 have an immobilizer feature that is based on codes for keys. To add an additional key,
saab Ignition key replacement you need the purchase of a new transponder as well as special programming. This is usually handled by the dealer using the Tech2 diagnostic tool.
This can be expensive. It is recommended to always have an extra set of keys in your possession.
Transponder key
The transponder keys are keys equipped with an electronic chip. It sends a signal back to the car when it is put into the ignition. The car then analyzes the signal to determine whether it is identical to that of the key. If the signals are in sync the car will then unlock and begin. This is a great method to avoid auto theft and keep your vehicle safe from thieves.
Transponder keys are a common feature in cars, but you must be aware that they're not as secure as classic metal keys. While the metal part of a traditional key may be cut and copied but a transponder key is protected by an electronic chip. The chip has a unique code which is programmed into a car's computer in order to identify it.
The car will recognize the Saab keyfob and permit it to turn on. However, it is only able to do this if your key fob is equipped with a chip that is not modified that has been programmed to match. The car won't start in the event that the key has not been programmed to match.
It is essential to have an extra Saab key. This is particularly important when you live in a rural area that is home to many car thieves. The good news is that you can find a new key for your Saab without needing to visit an auto dealer and pay the hefty prices that they charge. In most cases, you can have a brand new key made right on the spot for less than half the price of what you would pay at dealerships.
Key for Wired
Saab cars are usually delivered with two keys. If you have only one, it is recommended to get an additional key as fast as you can. This is because if it's lost, the car will need a new CIM and the locking cylinders replaced. This could be expensive especially if you're buying a used car.
The next step is to wire the column and row wires to the microcontroller. This is the most tedious part of the project, and will require lots of soldering. There isn't a standard method to do it, but you must plan how to connect and solder each column and row. There are 22 microcontroller pins and wires to connect for this keyboard. It has 5 rows and 17 columns.
After the columns and rows are soldered, it's the time to connect them to the key switches. To do this, place a diode over each pin of the key switch and solder it. This will protect the pins of the key switch from current and also prevent them from being shorted. A diode only allows the current to flow in a single direction, and has a an indicator in black that shows the direction in which current will flow.
Some of the tools available at auto parts stores -like the Autel MaxiIM IM608 Pro and IM508 -- can assist customers at the shop or DIY users in some cases program replacement keys and restore lost immobilizer data, Sanabria says. The tools plug into the OBD port and automatically guide the customer through the process, making it easier than replacing the computer inside the vehicle.
Jumpstarting the battery
A lot of people keep an item in their trunk to jump start a vehicle in the event of an emergency, but it may not be the best idea for vehicles that are newer. These vehicles are equipped with many computers and digital devices which communicate with one another. A surge in voltage when the battery is connected to another one could damage these components and render your car unable to drive.
Connect the cables to the vehicle that is operating. Let it run for two minutes. Attach the red clip to the positive terminal of the good battery (it will have "POS" or "+" on it). Attach the other end to a clean, unpainted metal surface under the hood of the damaged vehicle. The engine block is a great choice. The black cable should not be connected to the negative terminal of the dead battery. This could create sparks that could ignite the gasoline that is in the engine compartment.
After the cables have been connected, you need to start the car and allow it to run for around five minutes. Then, disconnect the cables in reverse. Keep in mind that the battery on your Saab 9-3 is charged while you drive, so it may take some time to get the battery back down again. It is recommended to purchase another key fob as soon as possible. Replacing the original one that works requires the installation and programming of a new computer chip.
replacement key for saab 93 case
Saab owners typically only have one car key, and if that is lost, they will be charged. The reason is that it's costly to replace a key, and that involves replacing the CIM (Column Integration Module) or TWICE on older models, as well as programming. It is recommended to have a spare key in the event of theft or other disaster, and the best way is to buy an extra key as soon as you are able to. Even it's "new", it will not function.
The dealer will charge you top dollars if you only have one working key. We can reset and reprogram the EEEPROM of your computer to be able to accept a replacement key without replacing the entire system. This could save you a significant amount of money. It's also much less expensive than waiting until you lose your sole key.
